Online soil testing service is entirely new service in India, though it has been available in USA and elsewhere for some time now. Sevama Soil Testing Kit is really convenient and simple to use. The promoters provide all the necessary instructions in simple language as well as pictorially. The only job is to collect the soil sample, write the address of the field and post it in a self-addressed and pre postage paid envelope. It was a good feeling to get a phone call from the laboratory personnel about the receipt of the sample at their end. I was also offered the option of language in which i preferred to receive my report. The report was quite detailed as results were provided for all macro and micro nutrients, organic carbon content, EC and PH along with the detailed recommendations for soil amendment/improvement. I received the report both through email as well as post. I also received a phone call explaining the results and offering other technical advice. The personalised approach prompted me to send another soil sample to them and I think I will be using this service quite regularly in future.
All in all it was a very pleasant and satisfying experience. It is a pity that one cannot send water samples to them for detailed analysis online because of the logistic reasons. Hopefully they will find a solution to this soon.
The only downside I can think of is that cost of the service is little bit on higher side and this can be a limitation to get the soil test done after every crop cycle. I wish SEVAMA well for their future endeavour.
